GT.Z Sideboard
design Giuseppe Terragni

The GT.Z Monobloc piece of furnitre is made on the original project preserved and found in the Giuseppe Terragni Archive. It was a surprise, even if somewhat expected, to realize how much complexity encompasses a study by Terragni that appears to be a visually simple sketch. Full and empty that follow precise alignments, cylindrical supports placed in a position dictated by the iron logic of the composition. This parallelepiped placed on four legs is a “hymn” to geometry.

The sideboard is represented together with the armchair as if to indicate its belonging. The two furnishings are parts of a single composition; between them there are bonds of dimensions and proportions.
In a house furnished with these elements, a harmony of invisible but at the same time perceptible connections is created.
An ultimate architectural piece of furniture. Conceived as if it were a piece of architecture.
We are used to distinguishing the word “volume” from the word “façade”. The former stands for a three-dimensional object, the latter for something two-dimensional, flat. Never as in Terragni’s works do we realize that they are actually inseparable.
